Kentucky Derby 2018 – Big race preview and betting odds guide

$

0

The first leg of the American Triple Crown takes place on Saturday with the 144th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

Mendelssohn seeks first European victory

Trainer Aidan O’Brien saddles the fancied Mendelssohn with Ryan Moore electing to ride here rather than in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. O’Brien has won the Guineas a record eight times but Moore has clearly been swayed by the opportunity to create a piece of racing history.

No European trained horse has ever won the race, although Clive Brittain’s Bold Arrangement did finish second in 1986. You have to go back to 1971 and the Venezuelan-trained Canonero II to find the last Kentucky Derby winner trained outside of the United States.

Those statistics make grim reading for Mendelssohn supporters but he is a Breeders’ Cup winner, albeit on turf. His backers will also point out that he won the UAE Derby by a record margin of 18 ½ lengths. Previous runners who took part in the Dubai Classic have a miserable record at Churchill Downs, all thirteen being beaten and none managing better than fifth place. He will also need to be quickly away if he is to secure a prominent position from barrier 14.

History suggests that Mendelssohn is up against it and there will be plenty of punters willing to lay the colt in the betting exchanges.

Justify likely to start Derby favourite

His main market rival is Justify, trained by Bob Baffert and the winner of the Santa Anita Derby last time out. Baffert underlined his status as one of the leading trainers in the world when American Pharoah became the first horse to land the Triple Crown for 37 years in 2015. He provided Baffert with his fourth Kentucky Derby victory and signed off with a spectacular win in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Justify’s preparation for this race is far from being “text book”. He did not race as a juvenile and the last winner of the Derby to make his debut at three was Apollo in 1882. Justify earned his place in the field when defeating Bolt D’Oro in the Santa Anita Derby last month. He is perfectly drawn in barrier seven and is likely to be a better price on the betting exchanges than on the US pari-mutuel system.

Audible (drawn 5) is also likely to trade at longer odds on the exchanges, the impressive winner of the Grade 1 Florida Derby. He is trained by Todd Pletcher who will also saddle Magnum Moon, Noble Indy and Vino Rosso. Last year he won the race for a second time with Always Dreaming, the shortest price of his three entries. The betting suggests that Audible is the one to take from his quartet while Vino Rosso and Noble Indy may be worth opposing from barriers 18 and 19 respectively.

Good Magic (drawn 6) ran away with the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Dirt but was surprisingly beaten in the Fountain Of Youth Stakes. The son of Curlin bounced back with a win in the Blue Grass Stakes. My Boy Jack (drawn 10) has an excellent chance of reversing the Louisiana Derby form with Noble Indy. He came from well off the pace with a wide run to be beaten less than a length. A narrow victory followed in the Lexington where he once again made up a lot of ground. He is currently a 20-1 chance in the United States but is trading at 33-1 or better on the exchanges.

What’s worth a punt this week?

The BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth kicks-off a brilliant week of sport, which also takes in Irish Classic Horse Racing, football’s Champions League Final, the Rugby Union Premier League Final, the Monaco Grand Prix, and French Open tennis from Roland Garros.

Highlights

  • BMW PGA Championship (24-27 May)
  • Aviva Premier League Rugby Union Final (26 May)
  • Irish 2,000 Guineas (26 May)
  • Temple Stakes (26 May)
  • Championship Play-Off Final (26 May)
  • Champions League Final (26 May)
  • League 1 Play-Off Final (27 May)
  • Monaco Grand Prix (27 May)
  • Irish 1,000 Guineas (27 May)
  • French Open Tennis (27 May – 10 June)
  • League 2 Play-Off Final (28 May)

Golf

The European Tour’s flagship event the BMW PGA Championship starts on Thursday 24 May, and 2014 winner Rory McIlroy is favourite to beat 150+ rivals over four days and 72 holes. However, the presence of other Ryder Cup hopefuls Alex Noren, Paul Casey, and Tommy Fleetwood means he shouldn’t have it all his own way. The bookies will also be pricing-up plenty of popular exchange and spread betting markets for such a big event. McIlroy won by just one stroke in 2014, so you may want to bet low on the winning margin market.

Horse Racing

The Irish 2,000 Guineas is set to take place on Saturday 26 May, with English 2,000 Guineas fourth and sixth Elarqam and Gustav Klimt set to renew rivalry at The Curragh. Meanwhile, sprinting sensation Battaash could be set to make his seasonal reappearance in the Temple Stakes at Haydock on the same day. It’s then the turn of the fillies on Sunday as Happily bids to go two places better in the Irish 1,000 Guineas after finishing third in the English 1,000 Guineas. You could go win, place, or each-way on the exchanges, or why not experiment with spread betting on the winning distance markets.

Football

The Champions League Final will hopefully be much more exciting than last weekend’s FA Cup Final, and it promises to be with both Liverpool and Real Madrid preferring to attack rather than defend. Both have been scoring freely of late, so it may well pay to go for a high-scoring match on either the Total Goals Spread Betting Markets or on the Over/Under Goals Markets on the best betting exchanges. There’s also plenty of play-off action in England as Aston Villa take each other in the Championship Play-off Final on Saturday, Rotherham take on Shrewsbury in the League 1 Play-Off Final on Sunday, and Coventry battle it out with Exeter in the League 2 Play-Off Final on Monday.

Rugby Union

Saracens take on Exeter in the Aviva Premiership Final on Saturday, and there are a variety of ways to get involved. You might want to back the favourites Saracens or the outsiders Exeter to win on the exchanges. Alternatively sports traders can place some spread bets on markets like Total Tries, Total Try Minutes, or even Tryscorers Shirts.

Formula 1

One of Formula 1’s toughest races the Monaco Grand Prix takes place on Sunday 27 May. 2017 winner Sebastian Vettel is favourite and he looks set for another showdown with 2016 winner Lewis Hamilton. You can back either of them to win on the exchanges or, to make the F1 season even more interesting, you may want to place a spread bet on either the Drivers’ Championship or the Constructors’ Championship. Compare sports spread betting bookies here.

Tennis

The French Open Tennis Tournament starts on Sunday 27 May with the Men’s Final taking place on Sunday 10 June. 2017 Champion and current world number one Rafa Nadal is odds-on to win an amazing 11th French Open Title but, if you don’t fancy taking those kinds of odds, there are loads of other markets. These include total points, total games, and total sets, and these are usually available as both exchange bets and spread bets.

How to bet on The Epsom Derby 2018 – a few handy pointers

$
0
0

I remember driving the down the motorway and seeing the Queen’s motorcade bringing her home from the Epsom Derby in the opposite direction. Always nice getting a glimpse of the Royals when racing.

England’s most prestigious horse race, The Epsom Derby, takes place on Saturday 2 June, and thousands of punters will flock to Epsom to witness whichever of this year’s star three-year-old middle-distance colts writes his name in the record books.

However, whether you’re heading to Epsom or just watching the big race in the pub with your mates, there are a variety of ways to bet on The Derby.

Exchange betting on The Epsom Derby

Many punters this year will bet win-only on Saxon Warrior, who looks sure to be sent-off a short-priced favourite after he romped to success in the 1,000 Guineas. He certainly looks bred for the job being by Deep Impact out of the Galileo sired Maybe. His trainer Aidan O’Brien’s record in the race is also very convincing, with four wins in the last six renewals. Win-only punters may well place their bets on the betting exchanges, where a strong market should, hopefully, guarantee a bigger-price than with the on-course or online bookies.

Only three of the last 10 Derby favourites have been successful though, so you may prefer to place an each-way bet on a horse at bigger odds. This way, if your horse only comes second or third, you should also make a profit. Roaring Lion looks sure to be the most popular each-way bet against the favourite, as he was a convincing winner of the Dante Stakes, a race which has produced several high-class Derby winners this century. You may also wish to try your luck with an outsider like The Pentagon as the 2017 Derby winner was returned at 40/1.

Alternatively, other exchange bets for The Derby that may prove popular include place-only, 2 places, and 4 places.

Spread betting on The Epsom Derby

Many spread betting firms will also let you placed fixed odds win-only or each-way bets. However, they also tend to offer some fun ways to bet on The Derby.

If you want to take the favourite on, but don’t know which outsider to take him on with, you might want to consider the SP of the winner market. This simply lets you take a position on what SP you think the winner will be returned at. Therefore, it doesn’t matter which outsider wins, providing one of them does.

Alternatively, you could be with or against the favourite in the favourite performance market. This usually involves the favourite scoring 25 points for finishing first, 10 points for second, and five points for third.

Meanwhile, if you’re going to Epsom, or just going to watch all the races at Epsom on Derby Day, you may want to choose spread bets that will add excitement to the whole day. These can include distance markets where the result is determined by adding the winning distances of all the winners together. There are also individual jockey markets where you the result is determined by the performance of all the mounts of a specified jockey, for example, Ryan Moore.

There will also be plenty of match betting opportunities with the sports spread betting firms. These matches can be between any two horses in The Derby, with the result determined by the distance between them when the first one crosses the winning line, regardless of whether they finish first and last or any position in between.

Finding the next Real Madrid Manager best odds and where to bet

$

Here’s a quick guide to betting on the next Real Madrid manager and where to get the best odds…

In just 29 months in charge at the Bernebeau, Zinedine Zidane steered Real Madrid to a hat-trick of Champions League Titles. Therefore, his decision to step down as manager has left Real Madrid with what may prove an impossible task of finding another manager capable of filling his shoes.

However, Real Madrid will be looking to replace Zidane as soon as possible to give the new manager time to become acclimatised as Madrid look to win a fourth consecutive Champions League Title and wrestle the La Liga Title away from their biggest rivals Barcelona.

A variety of big-name managers have been priced-up by the betting exchanges, sports spread betting firms, and the online bookies. They include the likes of Mauricio Pocchetino, Arsene Wenger, Guti, Antonio Conte, and Raul. Most sports betting firms are offering a fixed odds market. However, the exchanges could be the place to go for value, whilst they often reflect market interest before the online bookies.

Mauricio Pocchetino as the next Real Madrid manager?

It’s easy to see why Pocchetino has been installed as favourite with both the bookies and the betting exchanges. The style of football Tottenham have been playing since he became the Spurs manager is a style that the Real Madrid fans would appreciate. The ex-Argentinean international also has a rich history of experience in La Liga having played over 250 matches for Espanyol and managed them for three seasons. However, he has yet to win a trophy as a manager and that may count against him. He has also signed a 5-year deal to stay at Tottenham and is reportedly looking forward to making Tottenham’s new ground a fortress over the coming seasons. However, his appointment as Real Madrid manager could open the doors for Harry Kane to join him at Real Madrid.

Arsene Wenger could be the next Real Madrid manager?

Arsene Wenger’s 22-years in charge of Arsenal made him one of the longest-serving football managers of all time. His style of football is also pleasing on the eye, and he it would be interesting to see what he could do with the increased spending power he would have at Real Madrid. However, at the age of 68, Real Madrid may be looking for a manager that is younger and has more to prove than Wenger. The fact he hasn’t won the Premier League Title since 2004 and that Arsenal have not won a European Trophy under his management must also be negatives.

Guti

Guti or José María Gutiérrez Hernández is very much like Zidane in that he was a crowd favourite as a player at Real Madrid. He also took over the playmaking responsibilities in midfield when Zidane retired from playing football. Since 2013, he has been managing Real Madrid’s youth team, and a step up to first team management may well be on the cards at some point, even though he lacks experience at first-team level.

Antonio Conte

The Chelsea Manager spent his playing career and most of his managerial career in Italy. He has won Serie A twice with Juventus and also the Premier League title with Chelsea in his first year in charge. However, he does lack experience of La Liga, whilst his defence-first managerial style may not go down well with the Real Madrid fans.

Raul

Raúl González Blanco may be his full name, but the forty-year-old is known all over the world as Raul. The former Real Madrid striker scored 228 goals in 550 appearances for Real Madrid and also scored 44 goals in 108 appearances for Spain. Fans would be thrilled by his appointment, as it is likely he would nurture the many creative talents that Real Madrid have. However, with no previous management experience, he may be required to take on a lesser role at the club first with a view to taking over the reins in the future.

Smarkets betting exchange political betting gets a boost…

$

Smarkets Get Political! Smarkets are emerging as a serious force in the world of betting on politics and have pledged to expand their coverage in the second half of 2018.

Politics was reported to be the fastest growing market on the exchanges by Betfair in 2016 with over £400million in matched bet volume. With figures like that, it is little wonder that Smarkets want their share of the pie. Smarkets have already established over 100 betting markets, covering International and domestic politics. This is rivalling Horse Racing which has a similar number while Football has over 300 live markets. They have also introduced a regular political blog with well-informed coverage of their latest markets.

The Smarkets website presents the prospects of a particular political outcome as a percentage as well as in the traditional decimal odds. For example, they currently show a 74% chance of President Trump remaining in office until 2020 or beyond. Rivals Betfair are already showing over £1million traded on Trump’s departure date.

Recent turbulent world events have raised the profile of betting on politics still further. The 2016 US Election, The EU Referendum, the Scottish Referendum and the 2017 snap General Election have all provided surprising outcomes. Trump was rated a 500-1 outsider when he was first linked with the US Presidency. Over £200million was matched on Betfair on the outcome of the 2016 race to the White House. That is more than four times the total matched on the 2012 US Presidential Election.

For those pondering events a little closer to home, Betfair reported £114million in matched bets on the EU Referendum. The prospects of Brexit taking place before 2019 are rated less than 3% by Smarkets while the chances of a second Scottish Referendum this year look slim at just under 7.5%.

Theresa May gambled on increasing her majority in the election but ended up clinging to power. Jeremy Corbyn, once a 300-1 shot to become Labour leader, nearly pulled off one of the biggest shocks in political history. Over £90million was traded on the 2017 Election with Betfair, making it the third biggest political betting event in history. Smarkets are trading at a fraction over 36% that May will cease to be leader of the Tory party in 2018.

For those who want to delve a bit deeper into the political scene, Smarkets are also trading on which UK shadow cabinet minister will be first to leave the cabinet. This is unlikely to generate as much turnover as the next Premier League manager to leave his post but Smarkets clearly see plenty of potential. Their 2% commission rate is their headline grabber as they try to lure new investors away from Betfair.

Smarkets believe that Politics is an untapped market and aim to provide the most comprehensive coverage available in the UK. Political markets are notoriously volatile, often fuelled by pure speculation. In times when we are bombarded with news coverage 24/7, “Fake news” has become a hot topic. The task for punters will be to sort out the wheat from the chaff. The advance of social media has sparked new life into the political betting scene and Smarkets are determined to take full advantage.

Billions of pounds will be bet by punters on the 2018 World Cup. Therefore, if your one of those punters who’ll be having a World Cup flutter, it’s definitely a good idea to check out some of the fantastic concessions the bookies, betting exchanges, and spread betting firms are offering. Here are our top ten bookies to bet with at the 2018 World Cup.

Betfair

New members who sign up before the World Cup starts can have 100/1 about Betfair’s 4/1 favourites Brazil winning the World Cup. You can only have £1 on at those odds – but that means you’ll stand to win an extra £96.

Alternatively, the 200/1 about England winning the 2018 World Cup might catch the eye of many patriotic Englishmen. Again, you can only have £1 on at those odds – but that’s still fantastic value considering England are actually just 16/1 with Betfair.

Smarkets

If you’ve not already a member at Smarkets – this week could be the perfect time to become one. When you sign up, you’ll get a £10 risk free bet on a team of your choice to win the World Cup. You can then place £10 bets on each match your team plays, knowing you’ll get to keep your winnings as normal if they win or get your stake back as a free bet if they don’t win.

Matchbook

Wouldn’t it be great if the exchanges were offering commission free bets on the World Cup? If you answered yes, we’re pleased to report that Matchbook are doing if you join before June 14. You’ll also be eligible for commission free bets on selected sports up until December.

Sporting Index

Meanwhile, Sporting Index looks to be the spread betting firm punters are most likely to score with at the World Cup. That’s because they’re offering new punters up to £150 in free bets to bet with.

Ladbrokes

Meanwhile, if you think England may struggle to win the World Cup, the 50/1 with Ladbrokes about them reaching the knockout stages could be an even better bet. You only need England to finish first or second in Group G to land the bet, and new players can have £1 on at 50/1.

Guts

Betting on which player will shoot his way to the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup is always an interesting market to get involved in. A great new player offer from Guts looks sure to make it even more interesting, too. Sign up before the World Cup and you can have £1 at 100/1 about any player to win the Golden Boot. You’ll also get a £5 free bet every time they score in the group stages.

Sun Bets

If you intend betting £25 or more on a top goal-scorer bet at the World Cup – SunBets looks to be the bookie to bet with. As a bonus, new and existing players get a £5 free bet every time their selection scores in normal time or extra time.

Bet365

Bet365 are also offering a great concession to punters who hate penalty shootouts. They’ll give your money back if your outright selection gets knocked out via penalties at any time during the World Cup.

Sky Bet

Having a straight £10 win on the team you think will win the 2018 World Cup with Skybet looks a no-brainer – as they’ll refund your first £10 bet as a free bet if your team gets knocked out at any stage.

Betvictor

However, if the chance to win a share of £1,000,000 appeals – you might want to bet with Betvictor at this year’s World Cup. Place at least £1 on a bet that wins at the highest odds of any winning bet placed at Betvictor during the World Cup and the money could be yours.

Cashoutmachine.com tells you when the best time is to cash out historically this World Cup.

In financial trading there is a saying, or a strategy, or a credo, or whatever, but it’s run your wins, and cut your losses.

Which basically means that if you’re right, run with it. If you’re wrong get out early. It’s a strategy that makes the difference between a profitable spread betting trader and someone who will always lose money because they are either too greedy and take profits too early, or stubborn and can’t take a loss.

But, it doesn’t really translate into sports betting.

In some cases cashing out and banking profits early is the right move. Just because you are right now doesn’t mean you are going to be right for the rest of the match.

One example comes to mind towards the end of last year, when we were having a cheeky punt on Van Gerwen vs. Van Barneveld in the Darts World Championships . It was an epic match and early on I thought that Van Gerwen was looking too big for his boots.

Spreadex was quoting 2.25-2.75 on Van Barneveld on a 0-25 market. I bought £20 a point on a spread bet. And at one point it looked as though Van Barneveld was going to pull it out of the bag. By this point in the evening I’d sunk a few Carlings and was getting very excited as my Spreadex app was showing an in-play profit of around £210, as the market was trading 13.75 – 14.

Now deep down I knew he wasn’t going to win, everyone thought I was mad for not cashing out. But all I could think was “let it riiiiiiiiide”…. Like a mug I was looking for the win and the bet to settle at 25 giving me a profit of £445.

What an idiot.

So what’s the lesson here?

Sometimes it’s good to cash out. And if you are betting during the World Cup 2018 Cashoutmachine.com will tell you when to do so.

Cashoutmachine.com looks at the historic data of teams and updates in real time in-play to give you a percentage output of what has happened before from the same score and minute.”

It’s a very simple website and a great tool for those looking for in-play betting during the World Cup 2018. It’s also important to note this is not a tipping service, more a historical data tool for sophisticated sports traders…

Give them a go here, it’s free to use, no registration required an an exercise in statistical match data analysis, rather than a marketing tool from a bookie.

If you’re looking for an in-play bookie for the 2018 World Cup and plan to cash out. Don’t bother with any of the fixed odds bookie gimmicks. Go with a bookie that is setup for sports trading like one of the betting exchanges or sports spread betting bookies…

A simple guide to betting on horse racing

$
0
0

If Royal Ascot has whetted your appetite for betting on horses this summer, here is a simple five step guide to betting on horse racing.

Which type of bookie is right for you to bet on a horse?

Whether you are betting to small stakes or playing up your Ascot winnings, you should still make sure that you are getting the best bookmakers service available. If you are a relative novice, the wide range of different sports betting sites can be a bit daunting.

All of them are competing for your custom and there are some tremendous special offers for new customers. We regularly update the introductory offers from the top betting exchanges and it is certainly worth shopping around.

Traditional bookmakers bet at “fixed odds” while the exchange prices can be a little harder to understand. Take time and browse our recommended bookies like Smarkets, Matchbook, Spreadex, BetDaq and Betfair to make sure that you understand the layout and the process of placing a bet online. All leading bookmaker sites have their own help buttons and FAQ sections.

The major horse races and how to bet on a horse in them

Flat racing on turf begins in March and runs through to November with all-weather flat racing throughout the year. National Hunt racing begins in earnest in October through to April but regular summer meetings ensure that jumping enthusiasts are well catered for.

The Flat is dominated by the five Classic races; 1000 Guineas and 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, The Derby and Oaks at Epsom and the St Leger at Doncaster. Royal Ascot is followed by the Newmarket July Cup meeting, Glorious Goodwood and the York Ebor Festival.

The Cheltenham Festival in March and the Aintree Grand National in April are red letter days for jumping fans. Other notable races over fences include the Welsh National at Chepstow and the Scottish National at Ayr.

Different types of bet for betting on the horses

The most common form of betting on horse racing is the simple win bet. You simply pick your horse and place your bet. Each-way betting is slightly more complicated. You divide your stake with a win and place bet. The win part is calculated by multiplying the odds but the place dividend is calculated at one fifth of the odds or one quarter of the odds in handicaps.

You can also “lay” or bet against a horse on the betting exchanges but make sure that you fully understand the risks involved in this type of betting. You are effectively acting as the bookmaker so will have to have sufficient funds to pay out, should that horse win.

Many punters like to put horses together in multiple bets in the hope of winning a lot of money for a small stake. The Patent links three horses together in singles, doubles and a treble i.e. 7 x your original stake. The Yankee is 11 bets on four horses in doubles, trebles and an accumulator. All multiple and accumulator bets are explained on the bookmaker sites.

Sports spread betting bookies also offer some great new offers for horse bettors to try out that particular type of betting. Read our interview with Spreadex founder on why it’s not for everyone though.

Where to find the best odds for horse race betting

There are several excellent odds comparison sites to help you find the best value for your bet. You will need more than one account if you are to take advantage of the very best prices available. The betting exchanges frequently provide better value than fixed odds bookmakers.

You should never bet at starting price (or SP) as these odds tend to shorten up before the start, especially for the biggest races. Most bookmakers now offer a “Best Odds Guarantee” so that you will be paid out at whichever is the better price, the odds at the time of your bet or starting price.

Betting responsibly on the ponies

It is most important that you understand the risks involved and only bet what you can afford. Betting can be very exciting but only if you bet within your means. Make you that you know your own limit and stick to it. Do keep a close eye on your betting account and never chase your losses.

All bookmaker sites carry home page links to help you bet responsibly. Should you have any concerns about your betting activity, there are several highly qualified support agencies that can be contacted 24/7.

Top Five Tennis Betting Sites For Wimbledon 2018

$

Betting on tennis is big business on the UK betting exchanges, ranking third behind only horse racing and football. Millions of pounds are matched on the highest profile matches and events don’t come any bigger than Wimbledon.

In the men’s tournament, Roger Federer is hot favourite to claim a record ninth Wimbledon title. Injuries have plagued two-time Champion Andy Murray but bookmakers are hoping he will be fit to lead the British challenge. In the women’s event, Serena Williams will be trying to win her eighth title and move above Steffi Graf in the all-time lists. She faces tough opposition from defending Champion Garbine Muguruza and recent French Open Champion and World Number One Simona Halep. We have put together a review of our top five tennis betting sites ahead of Wimbledon 2018!

Betfair

As you would expect from the market leader, Betfair’s tennis coverage blows their rivals out of the water. On a typical week-day, Betfair has more than twice as many tennis betting markets as their closest rival. Click on your chosen match to bring up a live stream graphic with live up-dated match statistics. The graphic also has the option of being viewed as a pop-out. Most exchange bettors are familiar with the Betfair layout, nothing flashy but easy to navigate. Betfair are currently offering a Free £20 Exchange Bet. Simply place your bet and they will refund your stake if you lose.

Betdaq

Betdaq are now charging just 2% commission on all sports. Their comprehensive tennis section covers all of the action on the ATP and WTA Tour as well the ATP Challenger Tour. Their live match betting is presented in an easy-to-follow scoreboard format with options for set betting and set winner constantly updating. Betdaq’s current promotion offers new customers their first month’s commission back as cash up to £1,000!  See the site for full details and use the advertised promo code.

Sporting Index

Sporting Index provide a live match on-screen display that mirrors that of Betdaq, except they provide more information to punters. Points, break points and handy graphs for points and game momentum are all to hand. A plethora of available markets are listed below the running score-line. If it is blanket coverage of tennis match betting that you’re after, Sporting Index sports spread betting is the site for you. Their £50 welcome offer was recently raised to £150 for the 2018 World Cup so now is a great time to sign up!

Spreadex

Spreadex provides an easy switch between sports spread betting and fixed odds. The live matches are accessed by clicking the link at the top of the tennis section with the score and current odds displayed. The layout is not as easy on the eye as Betdaq or Sporting Index but the information is there if you look hard enough.

Simply click on the match to bring up a centre panel displaying everything from set statistics to binary match markets. To take advantage of the Spreadex i-Pad new customer offer, you will have to bet on Tennis X-Courts, Player Match Points, Total Points or Points Supremacy markets. Full details are available on the Spreadex promotions page.

Smarkets

Smarkets has excellent daily tennis coverage, displaying the current score alongside a handy graph showing the percentage traded on each player. You can also view the running totals traded on the individual markets. New customers who deposit a minimum of £20 will receive a £10 welcome bonus. Smarkets cannot yet claim to have the high trading volumes of some of their rivals but they are frequently expanding their range of betting options.

Basketball Betting Sites – Five of the best…

$
0
0

The National Basketball Association have agreed a $24million three-year basketball sports betting deal with MGM Resorts International. The sums involved are not particularly large but it is a significant step by the NBA towards embracing the new era of legalised sports betting.

It is anticipated that fourteen American states will have legalised gambling within the next two years and MGM have moved quickly to establish a foothold in the market. The partnership between the NBA and MGM is expected to be only the first of a series of agreements between major sports leagues and leading sports betting firms. With the knock-on effects likely to include a boom in betting on the sport, we have previewed the leading exchanges and selected the top five basketball betting sites for sports trading.

Betfair

As industry heavyweights, you would expect Betfair to be out there in front with their Basketball coverage and they do not disappoint. A click on the Basketball link brings up an extensive range of matches from the NBA to the Euroleague and top leagues in Spain, France, Germany and Italy.

The NBA does not get under way until October but you can already start betting on the opening fixtures and the NBA Outrights. There are separate markets for all NBA Divisions, the Eastern Conference and Western Conference, Regular season MVP and Rookie of the Year. Betfair provide game markets on moneyline, handicap and total points.

Betfair are currently offering up to £100 in free bets to new customers. Existing customers who are yet to place a bet on the exchanges can claim a free £5 bet. Simply opt in, place your bet and they will refund your stake if you lose.

You can compare Betfair to other betting exchanges here.

Matchbook

Matchbook also have an outright winner market open for the NBA Championship and have already attracted a greater volume of bets than Smarkets. At present that is their only available Basketball market so it remains to be seen how extensive their coverage will be in October. The user friendly layout of the site and recent promises of expansion of their sports coverage certainly bode well.

You can currently enjoy commission free betting when you join Matchbook until the end of 2018. The commission rate in the New Year will be no higher than 1% which is the lowest available anywhere at present.

Smarkets

Smarkets does not have a dedicated basketball betting section but the current markets can be raised by using the search button. They, like Betfair, have anticipated the start of the NBA and do at least have an outright market on the Championship.

Smarkets also cover other events, such as the International Asian Games (both Men and Women’s events). The volume of betting is low but Smarkets are at least dipping their toes in the market. New customers can claim a free £10 bet when they deposit at least £20 into their new account.

Sporting Index

Sporting Index do provide betting on Basketball but they have only limited coverage. Their current advertised event is the WNBA with seven markets on each game. You can bet on the half and quarter markets i.e. first half or first and second quarter points per team. Sporting Index do offer new clients a £50 non-withdrawable cash bet which must be used within seven days.

Compare sports spread betting bookies here

Spreadex

Spreadex is also lagging well behind Betfair in terms of its Basketball coverage. It does have a dedicated section but matches are thin on the ground. A simple click allows you to switch between spread betting and fixed odds. The fixed odds markets are the traditional handicap, match odds and total points. For spread betting purposes, Spreadex provides total points, team points and supremacy/supremacy plus markets.

Sites similar to Betdaq – how BetDaq compares to other betting exchanges

How does Betdaq compare to exchange betting rivals?

In the race for the exchange betting markets, Betdaq has long been established as the main challenger to Betfair. The emergence of Matchbook and Smarkets has increased the pressure on Betdaq’s market share. Now under the ownership of Ladbrokes, we look at Betdaq and see how they shape up to their market rivals.

You can compare betting exchanges here

Betdaq History

Betdaq was founded in 2000 and is the second largest betting exchange operator in the UK. Its registered office is in Alderney and Betdaq is the trading name of the Global Betting Exchange Alderney Ltd (GBEA). In 2011, Betdaq Games were integrated into the network following an agreement with CryptoLogic Incorporation company GTS.

Betdaq also invested in high profile sponsorship programmes with Kempton Park racecourse, Celtic Football Club and London Irish Rugby Club. The following year, a micro-site was set up to provide live streaming NFL matches from America. The company was purchased by Ladbrokes for 30million Euros in 2013.

Betfair £10 risk free bet Claim Offer Probably the best bookie in the world. Betfair Reviews 5% Best all round liquidity 1999 Visit Betfair

Betdaq promotions

Ladbrokes have been slow to drive the company forwards. The introduction of a 2% commission rate compares very favourably with the 5% typically charged by Betfair. However, Matchbook’s offer of 0% commission for new customers until the end of 2018 has ramped up the pressure.

Betdaq has a dedicated section on promotions, for both new and existing customers. New customers will receive their first month’s commission back up to £1,000 as withdrawal funds. Remember to enter the code DAQBACK when you register.

Horse racing fans can get a 20% boost on net winnings on Saturday’s ITV racing coverage. This is open to all customers and all you need to do is enter the code TVR18. When you place a bet on ITV or ITV4 racing, you will receive a 20% boost on any winnings which is returned as a free horse racing bet up to a maximum £20. You can only claim one free bet each weekend and the bet must be placed within 7 days.

If you play Virtual Sports, you can claim up to £10 of your week’s losses back for the weekend using code VS2018. If you haven’t played the virtuals before, you can get a free £10 bet if your first £10 bet is a loser (code V1010). Register for Betdaq Casino and you will receive a £30 bonus when you stake £10. Full terms and conditions for all Betdaq promotions are on the website.

Betdaq plans for expansion

Betdaq has remained ahead of the more recent betting exchange companies not only because of their existing customer base, but also because of their enormous range of betting markets. You can click on any of the day’s horse races from the main page to bring up the latest prices.

Registered customers have access to Proform Racing guide, a relatively new addition to the site. The Proform Stats may leave novice punters rather bewildered and it is debatable how much they bring to the Betdaq betting experience. There are win, place, each-way and additional place markets. There are also icons for cash out and multiple bet options.

The football section is even more comprehensive, covering a massive range of leagues across the world. Click on your chosen fixture to bring up an equally impressive range of betting markets which can be viewed as fixed odds if preferred. Betdaq boast similarly wide coverage of golf, tennis, rugby and other popular sports.

With Matchbook and Smarkets emerging as serious rivals, Betdaq have pledged to address the problems of low liquidity and poor customer service. By extending the liquidity pool to Coral, it is expected to increase markedly while Ladbrokes’ access to other brands also brings opportunities for expansion.

Best sites for betting on US college football – plus a guide to the best bet types

$

We’ve collated this handy guide to betting on, and the best sites to bet on college football, so you’ll be confident about placing wagers with a degree of understanding.

If you looking for something new to add to your sports betting strategy? American college football betting might look strange but fear not! Here we highlight the best sites for betting on US college football and also explain some of the most popular bet types.

Where to bet on US college football?

All key sports and spread-betting sites offer American Football. The NFL is the main market (see the best bookies for betting on NFL here), while a few will offer the college football (look out for NCAA) market. With college football being the less well-known, there may well be good opportunities.

  • Spreadex offers college football in both spread betting and fixed odds format. There’s a large range of match markets include yardages, touchdowns, field goals and more. Read our Spreadex review
  • Betfair offers college football with money line, handicap and totals markets, together with a host of alternative markets for those more experienced. Read our Betfair review
  • Smarkets does have NCAA betting, but options are more limited on a straight result (money line), limiting opportunity. For example, you can back Michigan to beat Western Michigan, but only at odds of 1.04, so you’d have to bet £100 to win £4. Read our Smarkets review
  • Matchbook does not appear to offer college football but has a full range of NFL money line, totals and handicap betting opportunities. Read our matchbook review

As always betting exchanges offer by far the best odds over regular bookies – so it’s worth looking at our betting exchange comparison tables to see which one has the best current offers.

What are the types of US college football bet?

If you’re used to the home/draw/loss or first goalscorer market in European football, you’ll find things a little different with US college football. These are the main types of college football bet.

  • With a handicap or point spread, you’re backing the number of points a team is expected to win (or lose) by.

Western Michigan +25.5

Michigan -25.5

In this example, Western Michigan is such a favourite to win at Michigan that the handicap is +25.5 for Western Michigan. You’re now betting that they’ll win by at least that margin. In the UK, how much you win is determined by straightforward displayed odds. In a US sportsbook, you’d see a different set-up, with the “vig” or “juice” set at, say -115, meaning you have to wager $115 to win $100.

  • Money lines. You can bet on straight who will win or lose. In the UK you’ll see straightforward odds, whereas in the US it would look different. Here’s how a game might look there.

Notre Dame +270

Michigan -330

In this case, Notre Dame is the underdog. If you wagered $100, you would win $270. If you backed favourites Michigan, you’d need to bet $330 to win $100. The UK normally displays money lines as straightforward odds.

  • Totals are simple. The total is given, which is the same for both teams, as the total number of points expected in the game. You bet on whether you think it will be higher or lower.
  • Think of these as multiples bets. Wager a smaller amount but on the outcome of multiple games.

Bets can also be placed across only halftimes and quarters, yardages, touchdowns, field goals and more if you’re feeling more adventurous!

With these new betting types to try, you can now enjoy spreading your wagers across a new sport.

Betdaq Versus Smarkets? Which is the better betting exchange?

$
0

Can’t decide between betting exchanges? Our handy quick fire side by side comparison of Betdaq versus Smarkets should help you make a more informed decision for your sports trading.

BETDAQ or Smarkets, where’s your smart money?

Betfair might be the largest betting exchange, but two horses are trying to close up on the rails behind. BETDAQ and Smarkets have enjoyed different starts in life, but their offerings are not dissimilar and will be familiar to Betfair regulars.

How did BETDAQ and Smarkets get started?

BETDAQ was originally part of the Global Betting Exchange group of companies founded by Irish businessman Dermot Desmond in 2000. It started trading in 2001.

In 2013 it was acquired by Ladbrokes, and then became part of the enlarged LadbrokesCoral group in 2017.

BETDAQ is now the second largest betting exchange (first is obviously Betfair) in the UK and the largest betting exchange technology provider in the world.

Smarkets was founded by American Jason Trost (see our CEO interview here) with a merry band of investors, opening for public trading in 2010. Several rounds of funding followed and by March 2015 the business had reached $1 billion in trades.

It unveiled a brand refresh early in 2018 and received much press for its model of having a self-managed workforce who all get to see and vote upon each other’s salaries.

What sports do BetDaq and Smarkets cover?

BETDAQ has a wider range of sports markets, covering: football, horse and greyhound racing, golf, cricket, tennis, American football, darts, rugby union and rugby league, basketball, ice hockey, baseball, boxing, mixed martial arts, Australian rules and F1.

While Smarkets is the only one to cover handball, it has a narrower selection with football, horse racing, American football, baseball, basketball, boxing, cricket, darts, ice hockey, mixed martial arts, motorsports and both rugby variants.

Non-sporting selections on offer from Smarkets and BetDaq

Smarkets likes its politics, offering markets from Brexit to who the next Prime Minister will be and the US election results. You can even bet on whether Donald Trump will be impeached. There are also some television and entertainment markets, such as likely winners of Strictly Come Dancing.

BETDAQ sticks to sport for its traditional exchange markets, but it does have a casino offering the usual range of slots, table games, together with arcade games and virtual sports. It has popular sports pools syndicates to join.

Commission rates comparison

BETDAQ  and Smarkets both charge 2% on net winnings in any market.

Current promotional offers from Betdaq and Smarkets

More promotions are available at BETDAQ.

BETDAQ:

  • New customers up to £1,000 cash back
  • Bet £10, get £10 on virtuals
  • Play virtuals Mon to Thurs and get £10 of your losses back as a free bet for the weekend
  • Saturday horse racing, 20% boost on net winnings
  • On casino, for new customers, bet £10, get £30

Smarkets:

  • For new customers, pick one Premier League team and get five £10 risk-free bets across five matches.
  • An alternative is £50 of free bets on horse racing

Much to admire on both betting exchanges

Both BETDAQ and Smarkets offer slick and regulated platforms, including mobile apps. BETDAQ has the wider range of sports, promotions and a casino, but Smarkets offers non-sporting exchanges, including politics and entertainment.

What are the best sites to bet on UFC?

$
0
0

The rough and tumble of the Ultimate Fighting Championship is not for the faint-hearted. But while the mixed-martial-arts specialists batter each other senseless in the ring, you can sit back and enjoy some exciting betting action. So where is the best site to bet on UFC?

Most of the big sites allow you to bet or trade on UFC as interest in the sport, boosted by star names like Conor McGregor, shows no sign of waning.

However, shop around as the betting options vary greatly from site to site, with several currently offering no UFC markets at all.

UFC bets on Matchbook

Of the betting exchanges, Matchbook has the best selection of upcoming fights, with a straightforward option of simply selecting the winner in each. Fight nights and special events are covered.

At the time of writing, 21 forthcoming fights are listed with the win-only market, although the site has previously added a market for the predicted number of rounds a bout will last.

If you’re keen to join the UFC action (from the safety of your couch, of course), Matchbook currently offers commission-free sports betting until December 31, 2018.

Betting on UFC at Betfair

The biggest betting exchange doesn’t have the biggest fight selection (that’s currently Matchbook), but there’s still a decent enough selection of upcoming bouts to choose from (six at the time of writing).

It offers the win-only market, meaning you have a straightforward choice of selecting who’ll be flattened or left standing.

If you’re new to Betfair, take advantage of the free £20 exchange bet offer. New customers can wager on a UFC fight settled within a week of opening an account, and if the bet loses they’ll get £20 in cash.

Smarkets UFC odds

Smarkets has a limited UFC offer. At the time of writing, it lists only one upcoming contest, the headline fight of the event 230 taking place at Madison Square Garden in New York on November 3.

There’s no doubting it’s a big fight, though, with heavyweights Daniel Cormier and Derrick Lewis leading the bill. You can back the winner, perhaps joining most punters who think Cormier will walk it.

Betdaq doesn’t offer betting on UFC

Betdaq currently offers no UFC or MMA action. You’ll have to stick with boxing there.

UFC sports spread-betting

Spreadex claims it will offer in-play live betting on most world title fights and static non-live prices on other big fights. You’ll need to check the site regularly to see when UFC is available because it’s not listed except for busy UFC periods.

However, the site promises lots of action as those big clashes approach, with its traditional sports spread bets as well as fixed-odds betting on markets including the winning margin, how many points the winner will score, and how many minutes the bout will last.

Sporting Index, meanwhile, has been known to offer markets on UFC in the past, but nothing live on its site suggests it will again any time soon.

Best UFC betting action

From looking over the top exchange and spread-betting sites, it’s clear Matchbook has the widest selection of fights on which to place a bet.

Where to find the best matched betting sites

$
0
0

Matched betting is an ideal way to add value to your accounts with the bookies. If you’re prepared to shop around, there are lots of promotions offering free bets, which is where easy matched betting comes into its own.

How to learn matched betting

While it might appear complicated at first, matched betting is very simple. Essentially, to get your promotional free bet, you make your first qualifying bet on the site and then lay it off at an exchange. Whatever the outcome, you end up more or less even.

Having fulfilled the qualifying bet at the bookie, you get your free bet. Repeat the process with your free bet, then enjoy the profits by withdrawing the winnings, which will either be on the bookie site or the exchange.

As a bonus, exchange sites like Betfair, Smarkets, BetDaq or Matchbook also have sign-up offers.

Matched betting step by step

Here’s an example, using a current offer from Betfred, where new customers can make a £10 bet and receive £30 in free bets.

  1. Deposit the £10 on Betfred and look for a suitable game (using decimal odds). A made-up example is Liverpool to beat Tottenham at 2.1. Back the result as your £10 bet.
  2. Go to a betting exchange like Betfair, and bet against Liverpool winning against Tottenham. You’re looking for roughly the same odds, around 2.1.
  3. Now, whatever the result you can’t lose. If Liverpool win, Betfred pays the winnings, AND you get your £30 free bets. If Liverpool draw or lose, you lose the £10 bet on Betfred, still get the £30 in free bets, AND you win on Betfair.
  4. Your £30 free bets will be in your Betfred account over the next few days. Repeat the simple matched betting process with the free bets (make sure there are funds in your exchange account to match your free bets).
  5. Your £30 free bets will cancel each other out, but you get to get to keep the gains in your account thanks to the free bet amount.
  6. Repeat the easy matched betting process at any of the bookies offering free bets. Many offer them especially around times of major sporting events.

Matched betting sites UK

Once you start looking around, you’ll find plenty of free bet offers out there. If you’re prepared to do the legwork of depositing, making bets and laying them (make sure you have a funded exchange account like Betfair or Smarkets), then you can pick up a nice profit.

A quick nosey at the time of writing throws up ten for starters:

  • Betfred, bet £10 get £30 in free bets
  • Coral, bet £5 get £20 in free bets
  • Ladbrokes, bet £5 get £20 in free bets
  • Paddy Power, bet £10 get £30 in free bets and £10 on a slot
  • Bet Victor, bet £10 get £50 in free bets and a £10 casino bonus
  • William Hill, bet £10 get £30 in free bets
  • Mr Green, bet £10 get a £10 free bet
  • Betway, bet up to £30 for up to £30 in free bets
  • 888, bet £10 get £30
  • Boyle Sports, up to £25 in free bets with various conditions

Why not change things up a bit with a matched betting accumulator? The same process applies, but you can add this option if you’re trying to get your ‘back’ bet odds with a bookie as close as possible to the ‘lay’ odds at an exchange.

Remember, easy matched betting is foolproof. Just about. Mistakes can happen, so ensure you are placing the right amount at the right odds all the time.

Finally, some of the bookies offer free bet promotions for existing customers from time to time. Take advantage of these, too!

Not all bookies look too kindly on serial matched bettors. It’s entirely legal, but it doesn’t help their bottom line. So, to keep your accounts from being frowned upon, bet occasionally on your own, without relying on matched bets.

If you want to bet on football, we’ve got the lowdown on the best football betting sites.

Don’t much about with silly offshore bookies with unobtainable welcome offers. Go straight to the biggest, best and bravest bookies who offer the most profitable odds.

Variety is the key when it comes to wagering on sports events. A sportsbook will definitely find it hard to high up the rankings or even make the list of the best places to bet on sports events if it’s short of certain features like the in–play betting. Great odds, bonuses, promotions and special offers are some of the underlying elements that will keep customers returning for more betting actions time after time.

With no further ado, here is our list of the top five bookies for football betting;

  • Smarkets

The new kid on the block for betting exchanges.  They are on a massive client grab at the moment and as such are offering loads of free bets for new customers who sign up. Smarkets offer better odds than Betfair on most markets so give them a go.

  • Spreadex

If you are a big gambler, you should have an account for betting on football with Spreadex. They offer sports spread betting, fixed odds and personal service like no other bookie. Proper old school, based just outside London in St Albans, they are decent people to bet with.

  • Betfair

Every aspect of this sportsbook seems quite impeccable and professional. With aesthetically crafted and stunningly look homepage, the website is designed for ease of placing bets, and it puts its money where its mouth is by offering varieties from the sports markets standpoint. The odds offered are definitely something worth recommending to friends and family while the in–play betting feature is even regarded to –by a fraction of professional punters– as the best in the industry –if not in the world!

  • Bet365

Offering one of the highest odds available on the market, Bet365 is a British bookmaker that allows punters to wager on an extensive range of football betting markets as well as traditional sports bets. The home screen is clearly laid out thus enabling customers to easily and quickly choose their desired bets from the navigation bar. Smarkets offers PayPal as a deposit method. Why that’s great news all-round…

$
0
0

It’s been a long time coming for the new betting exchange nipping at the heals of Betfair and BetDaq. But, Smarkets has finally added PayPal to it’s betting exchange platform as a deposit and withdrawal method.

Why is this good news?

Well, I don’t know about you but there are two things that win business for me online.

Price & convenience.

If I’ve found the perfect gift for someone on a website that is not Amazon, added it to my basket then got to check out and they don’t offer PayPal. There is only one phrase that comes to mind “abandoned cart”.

The thought of having to add new card details, is an instant put off. Let alone having to traipse around the house looking for it.

However, if PayPal is on offer. Deal done in two clicks.

Same is true of price.

It ridiculous really, considering how much one (me) wastes in day-to-day life. But when it comes to online comparison is so in your face, that you just feel like an absolute mug if you don’t go for the better-priced option.

So, there you have it. Smarktes has added PayPal and now does a nice job of competing as an alternative to Betfair by having great pricing and convenience.

I do actually know that PayPal is incredibly expensive for gambling companies and betting exchanges. PayPal in some cases can charge up to 8% transaction fees on deposits. But, card providers are becoming harder to work with as they require transacting firms to be regulated in all the restrictions that deposits are made from.

So, it’s good for punters because it’s easy. But it’s bad for bookies because it’s expensive.
